Free App NO Longer Works? Why?!

For years this was a 4/5⭐️ app that I used regularly to communicate with friends in Italy, now since the May 15, 2015 improvements, it wont even open. It dropped & opened my Safari only to reroute me to candy crush saga then to a web developer site that apparently couldnt be found? What the heck! Im not upgrading anything for .99 if the free app wont even work anymore.
Off to look for a new app, leaving disappointed.
